  D00R : TG 049 - 050

Did I ever mention that Vidu is secretly a giant bird?

If you have trouble reading this page spread, please revert to the usual reading of them as two separate pages. I thought I wanted to be revolutionary or something, but I'll have to be a much better visual story teller to manage forcing the eye to read it as one big page.

For Jazeki's benefit, Vidu is based on two significant myths, not related to each other. One you've definitely heard of. 8D One I'd bet you a buck you wouldn't recognize. [but you won't be able to call in that bet until the end of TG, when it's all revealed. 9_9]

As for the chapter restructure - I was convinced by two friends, Rob and Jesse, that it's better if I don't make chapter 2 be the previously planned 70 some pages long. So I'm breaking chapter 2 into chapters 2 and 3. Which will require some restructuring now to create any sort of satisfying plot arch. So it's necessary. ^^ There won't really be any redrawing. [though i'll be taking away some panels and adding others]

More on that in the coming weeks as I work on the new edits.

TWC - The painting from last week that I was frantically trying to finish. ^^ It's done now, and submitted to the thing I intended it for. Which was Emerald City CC's benefit book for the Seattle Children's Hospital. If nothing undue happens, this illustration will be in the 2011 book! I'm really happy to be a part of the charity, but angelic ideals aside, it will help promote my work as well. [I'll also be present at ECCC 2011. :3 Come see me.]

So thank you for crossing your fingers last week that the illustration would meet standard and be included. <3

Also, it's worth an extra comment to say I'm very greatful for all the nominations TG received in the Smackies awards. >3<

I highly recommend browsing all the nominated comics! I've already found some awesome new reads. [Soup and Orbit come to mind, if you're interested]

Thank you very much for the nominations in fantasy, coloring, and original art style. ><

Win or no, just being nominated has won TG a bunch of new readers. 8D

This comic exists in part due to the support it receives in print.

I'm sure whatever order you decide will be great! I admire your story telling skills, and of course this gorgeous artwork. :)

Thank you for your faith, Dokidoki. ^^

It will be the same story, just ... hopefully easier and better to read.

*lols at your comment*

When I saw the bird I was "IS THAT VIDU?" then read the word bits to confirm and thought, "VIDU'S A BIRD. <3"
Where did he get the skirt wrap from anyhow? And the hair tie.

But I must say I am in love with that wolf's design. *_______*

Aw! You've solved one of the issues you had. *__* It's allowed you to have the text amount you want without it going overboard. What makes it effective on this page than in others is the fact you've spread those paragraphs out and have more visual components. Meaning, you've given us information, but you didn't overload us with it. In incorporating more visual narrative, you allowed us 'rest spots,' which makes reading the text easier and fun.

In addition, the text really works best when it's paired with an image that can relate to the message of that paragraph. Take the "Man has limited form..." paragraph. The image of Sedna's wolf/human form corresponds beautifully with that paragraph. it reinforces what that paragraph is about.

About the only tweaking I would do for this page is to move the 'forms of men have changed...' paragraph a bit closer to the hand panel, just so we know that text corresponds with that panel as opposed to the large Vidu/Sedna image.

At this point my other concern is that with all the color and texture watercolor produces, I might end up with cluttered pages. Not that downsizing it to fit a computer screen helps that any.

I'm worried that it isn't clear enough that's a paw becoming a hand in those first two panels.

Ah, your art is so beautiful! This page and the vote incentive are especially stunning. ^_^

I wouldn't worry too much about the textures of the watercolors cluttering.overloadings things much. The thing that prevents that from happening is your strong use of blacks, which neutralizes the overall page.

While the two panels are kinda lost within sihoutte shadows/shapes, the other images really help explain what just happened. Plus, the text on this page does correspond beautifully with the visual imagery of transformation. Lastly, even if people miss the black paw, they'll notice Sedna's transformation in the other images that follow after.

I have to say, of all the watercolor pages thus far, this one succeeds as a visual/text narrative. It has the right amount of text with imagery. I think you made an excellant decision in dividing this chapter into 2. That gives you more opportunities to spread out those text passages like on this page, this as opposed to stuffing a lot into a single page and creating visual/text clutter. Divid and conquer, I say. XD

Right now, any form of mythology is escaping my brain because I'm tired, but I shall hold you to that dollar bet. If I lose, I order a sticker and or/pin. XD I could follow the transformation sequence just fine. I especially like the brightness of the page and Vidu petting the wolf. :3

ahhh your watercolors and fluidity is so breathtaking, such unbelievable pages you have here! :D <3

I agree with dantespimp: the smaller amount of text makes this page the most effective watercolour yet. You create SUCH beautiful images... let them do more of the talking! :D

I will be interested to see how you reshuffle the pages we've already seen. It'll be a really cool chance to see more of the creative process behind a comic.

Ooh, and I lurrrve the TWC image. You use blacks so well with watercolour, and that's not easy. o.o

Ohohoh, I would've thought that Vidu was the wolf (tricky, aren't you?) makes sense that Skittlez is the wolf though, dog yeah duh XP
